The latest book by Tony Bolland is now available!

'Hessys' the shop that launched a thousand bands and the Beatles...the Iconic shop where the Beatles bought their first instruments from along with many of the Merseybeat bands, Tony managed the Guitar Department 1977 to 1980 and worked along side of Big Jim Gretty who organised the Albany theatre gig where the Beatles played and taught John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison chords on the guitar when they often went to the shop before they were famous.
There many anecdotes from famous musicians and the foreword is by Merstbeat founder Bill Harry.

  1. I bought loads of gear including guitars, amps and also a hammond from Hessys during the 60's. I also knew Jim and Frank and Bernard very well. But my understanding is, the Beatles bought their gear from Rushworths which was over the road from Hessy's.

  2. i worked there pat time around 1977 1980 to pay off my john birch flying v

  3. I own a Gibson B45 12 (1962/3) that I have known since 1967 when the last owner bought it off the previous 'owner' for £50. The vendor said he used to be involved with the Beatles and that this was a guitar was owned by Paul McCartney in the early 1960's. It is a right handed but was strung left and with 6 strings when the last owner purchased it! Was given a note signed by vendor but it has been mislaid, he bought it from a third floor flat in Upper Parliament street. Anybody know of this guitar and it's possible link with Paul? call 01829751377
